Smart, confident, outgoing. How do you teach something to a group of people who think they already know it all and are not the least interested in learning what they already don't know. This is exactly the challenge we faced when we were asked to create a course on BarPlus for the cabin Crew of British Airways. The target audience didn't have a fixed seat in the office as they are always flying so they didn't have a computer either. To make it even more challenging, they don't have time either. The only time they can sit and go through something is the 20 minutes before or after the flight.
Not only we had to teach them something but we had to make it engaging enough to keep them interested in it stop them from looking at their watches. The result was an engaging course that could be done in 20 minutes. Using the interface of a slot machine, the program would throw one transaction randomly from many we created.
The result. Well the course could be finished in 20 minutes but most people chose to spend much longer time there and the random selection of the transaction ensured they had a something different every time. For us? Well we won the Brandon Hall award for it.
