The government has asked for reservation in jobs for locals. A local is a person who has spent more than 15 years in this state. Currently the reservation is mostly in manufacturing and blue collar jobs and the service industry has been spared. The question is till when? Best way do implement an unpopular policy is by announcing it so people are outraged. Then implement a small part of it and people opposing it will see it as a victory instead of seeing it other wise. Once people have learned to live with it, add some more. The start is with blue collar jobs but it will surely spread and in a few years jobs in all sectors will be reserved and we won't be able to do a thing about it.
If a life depends on it, the person to be trusted is the one who is the best, not the one who became a doc because of reservation.

Reservation by definition means giving something to someone who doesn't deserve it. Let's see why someone would want reservations. Everyone has a right to education and that right can't be given by reservation. The single most important tool to ensure equality among all is to ensure all the children are educated. To make sure everyone gets education, make sure that there are enough schools. Now once one can get an admission in a school, the only thing preventing that child from getting an education is the lack of money. There are enough schools run by the municipal commissions and the government providing free education. If they are not enough to accomodate all children of our country, open more schools and increase the capacity of existing ones. Once educated there are no disadvantaged children or people and now what they need is an opportunity which can't and shouldn't come in the form of reservation because by doing so you are placing the others at a disadvantaged position. How fair is it that someone can't get what he deserves because there is a "disadvantaged" but non deserving candidate for the same.
An able student should get a financial help from government to study further but he should not be given a seat for a course he is not good enough for.
Reservation is against the rule of natural selection. Imagine if a herd of buffaloes or a pride of lions selects its leader like this. This will lead to the extinction of group. Although the results of a country that adopts this practice may not be so stark and so eaily visible, they are damaging nonetheless. I mean would you like to take a flight where the guy sitting in the cockpint in not there because he was the most capabale among the group but just because he belongs to a particular caste. We are humans and our lives aren't always threatened and above all, we have a conscience so we don't have to foresake our weak ones and leave them behind to be hunted or to starve. We can afford to carry them with and I strongly feel that we do that but reservation is not the way of doing it.
