“When we are playing overseas, our victory has more to do with our luck and the performance of the opponents then our own performance and talent.”

Everyone says we are bad tourists and our overseas records confirm that. We have managed to win a series after 21 years. A few things that come to mind after winning the series

Why are we scared of winning?

We won the series 1-0 but this could have easily been 2-1 if we had decided to enforce the follow on instead of batting. We gave up the psychological edge we had and it England did very well to manage a draw. Thinking about it, if there were more overs, they could have easily won.

On the eve of Independence Day, I would like to be unpatriotic and wish that England had taken the last wicket in the first test and had drawn the series. If a team doesn't want to make a very possible 2-0, they don't deserve 1-0 either.

Showing the finger

Well not the middle one but the index one. Why is that all the decisions where the umpire is wrong go against the Indian team? Why is that whenever a benefit of doubt is given to a batsman or the bowler, it is always one from the opposite team.

Perception is more real then reality

None of the players from Anil Kimble, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Saurav Ganguly has mentioned anything about retiring but the Indian media is very keen to give them a farewell. Even before the first ball was bowled in the series, the media has been talking about how it can be the last series of these players in England. It has been mentioned so often that it has gone into the sub conscious of a lot of people are they are expecting these players to retire soon. I guess Greg Chapel would have been more successful in throwing Saurav out of team if he had adopted these tactics.
