The Indian media seems to covering only one news and that is the wedding of Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai. The fact that it was announced that they are engaged and will be getting married is driving the whole world crazy and this is all they are talking about.
After watching this frenzy, I told Mira what I would have done if I were Abhishek Bachchan. “I would book the biggest possible ground in Bombay for the wedding and would get the best people designing it. I would hire the best chefs in the country to cook for the wedding and then I would market my wedding. I would sell tickets to ordinary people for something like 15 to 20,000 bucks. The ticket would gain them an entry to the wedding, they will be served food as well and there will be a separate bar where they could have drinks but those would not be free.”
Mira looked amused and asked me if there was anything else. “Yes indeed, there are so many fans that I will be able to sell all the tickets in no time at all. Now think about it. If someone is willing to pay about 20000 to be a part of Abhishek's wedding, he would definitely come to the wedding with a gift and best of all, that gift would not the stupid toaster he gave his cousin on his wedding. He would be bringing something expensive and exquisite. On the way out, there will be stalls at the exit selling memorabilia like t-shirts, key rings and caps.”
“Sounds interesting” Mira said "but if you are organizing a party in Bombay what about the fans in the rest of the country.
“Well this is not something I thought about but I guess we can take care of that as well. I can have parties in all major cities of the country. The price of the ticket will be less and you can go there to enjoy food and booze and watch the movie projected live on a giant screen.“
“I guess this they can not only cover the expense of the wedding but actually make a profit as well.”
“Indeed and this is not all...”
“Oh! So you have more plans.”
“Indeed. Other than the parties, there can be Aishwarya Abhishek wedding franchise... just like the krrish franchise. They can tie up with a lot of brands and make money from there.”
“What about the coverage rights? They can make money by giving rights to some channel for exclusive coverage of the wedding.”
“Indeed and they can tie up with some telecom company too where you can send a congratulation SMS to the couple. The price for sending one SMS will be 20 bucks.”
“I think you are going over the top. 20 bucks for an SMS is a little too much. Don't you think?”
“Not if there is a contest where say 20 odd senders can be randomly chosen to attend the wedding and may be a grand prize where the winner can have the dinner with Abhishek and Aishwarya. Not only will people send the SMS, they will keep sending SMS till their thumbs start aching.”
“So will you go to the wedding for 20000 bucks?”
“Definitely not...maybe I'll send out some text messages though.”
