“This is literally Begani shaadi mein Abdulla diwana. I don't know why so many people are getting so excited about the wedding of Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai”

I don't understand this. There are people, especially people in media who are going crazy about the supposed wedding of Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai. First they were speculating if this is going to happen but now they have seemed to convince themselves that indeed they are getting married. There were news of their horoscopes being matched; them appearing at functions together that help the media convince itself. Elementary Watson. Elementary.

What I find even more surprising is that all this is not on Page 3 but on the front pages of the newspapers. You have papers carrying pictures of the two people in question on front pages while news like Pakistan successfully testing a surface to surface missile is buried somewhere inside the paper. “What the fuck have you done putting this picture of the missile on the first page, do you think any one is interested in this bloody stupid thing, remove it and show the picture of Abhishek and Aishwarya in the temple and yes, I want a quarter page picture.”

What I found really amusing is the news I read on the paper today. It was so interesting that I read it completely. A group of three-four people went to a saree shop in Varanasi (or somewhere in UP) to buy some sarees. The asked for the sarees for engagement to wedding and ended up buying 11 sarees in the range of 3000 to 5000. They told the shopkeeper that these sarees were meant for Aishwarya Rai. Now let's assume this really happened and see who stands to gain what. Someone out there to buy clothes for his son/daughter’s wedding claims they are sent by the Big B and pay about 60000 for the sarees which could have been higher but possibly a discount was given because they told those were for Aishwarya, not only that, they must have got a VIP treatment-snacks and cold drinks on the house. The must have been shown almost everything in the shop which would not have been the case if they were just any customer. The shop got free publicity. It must have been flocked by the fellow shopkeepers and other acquaintances that came to inquire if it was really true but there are chances that they can get some clients too.

Now think about the newspapers and me. The newspaper just published it as after being told off by the editor, the guy doesn't want to turn away anything related to the couple. He is not even applying his or her mind to think what would a former Miss World, a highly paid and successful actress wear on her engagement and wedding, any ordinary saree picked up from just any shop or maybe a dress specially designed for her by a famous designer.

Last but not the least think about me, I don't know any of the people in question personally. If they choose to get married, I am not going to get an invitation to the wedding and in no foreseeable way I can benefit from their wedding and still here I am blogging about it.
