I seem to have become a problem magnet where I keep attract8ing problems by just sitting around. I have written about adventures of my car, motorcycle and my camera and now is the turn of my ticket to Delhi.
I was not able to get a good deal on air tickets and both Mira and I have been unable to make up our mind on how we want to travel to Delhi, in a train or by air. We thought long and hard and figured out that it would make sense to go by air because of following reasons.
- If I go by train, we will have to go by 2AC because the berth in 3AC is not wide enough and we are going to have a pretty tough time with Manu who likes to have the entire bed to himself while he is sleeping.
- Manu generally is going to get cranky, as he doesn't like to be confined in a small place. He is going to make the trip memorable given he will have 18 hours to do so.
- I will save money by traveling by train but I will eventually claim my LTA and even if I save the money, I will end up paying 30% tax on that. Instead of paying that money to the government and get nothing in return (Read more about it here), I'd like to spend it to travel in a comfortable manner.
So finally we decided to pay a little extra to travel by air and I booked my ticket. I don't know what I was thinking but I selected a flight that was to leave at 2.00 in the morning and when I was discussing the details to Mira, I realised what I had done. I gave her the number and asked to see if we can change the flight.
A few minutes later Mira called me up and told me that the flight has been changed and we will be flying at 8 in the evening. The new flight is a little cheaper and the excess money we have given them will be paid in the form of a credit note. I called up Spice jet to find out how I could claim it and I was told that no change has been done and I will have to pay 500 bucks to get it changed. I called Mira again and she told me that it has been confirmed.
I called back Spice jet and spoke to another representative
“Hi, I booked a ticket for a flight leaving at 2.00 in the morning and my wife has got it changed to the one in the evening.”
“Yes sir it has been changed to the flight leaving at 8 in the evening of 12th September”
“No no no. 12th September is the date I made the booking, the flight is on 28th October”
“No sir, it is changed to today.”
“TODAY! What are you talking about, it has to be on the evening of 28th October, not today”
“But sir it has been changed to today”
“How is that possible?”
“Sir that is what we are asked to do”
“Who in his right mind would want to do that? I wanted it to be changed to the evening of the 28th October.”
“Sir. I don't know what has happened, please give me 10 minutes and I will call you back.”
In about 15 minutes he called me back “Sir there has been some confusion and by mistake the booking was changed to today.”
He changed it to what I wanted and charged me a hundred bucks for doing it. This entire exercise was something entirely unnecessary but I am glad that it was over.
Let's see what adventure waits me next.
