I love TV, I can't tell you how much I am in awe of the TV serials that are being produced now a days. Actually I have written about it previously as well so let's not write the same thing again. Today I wanted to demonstrate a brilliant technique of those TV serials.
This technique involves the shocked expressions of someone and with the kind of serials we have some character or the other is shocked every 5 minutes. I guess this practice came to existence when the producers of the serials found it very hard to get content worth 22 minutes for each episode.
Talk about creative bankruptcy, they are talking about subjects so banal that it's like testing the tensile strength of an elastic band and still they can't create the full 22 minutes of the episode and to pad it, they device different techniques like the shocked one. It works like this...forget it, just press play and watch.
time job and this is all I can manage in my free time.
Ajay Roher's comments:
Just saw it…its excellent observation. Even I noticed this thing and gets too irritated. You have shown only one character because of time limit or whatever constraint but actually they (in the serial) do it on each and every character present in the scene. If there are 7-8 people (as in most cases of SAS-BAHU serials) this technique will be applied on each character. There is one more 'Time Pass Technique' these days and that is to celebrate some festival/marriage, which takes care of the whole episode. Infect the 'Keketa Kapoor' finds it more productive as it does gives her opportunity to advertise for her 'Gayab' brother and her own films. This technique usually includes some celebrity (99.99% female) who comes and sings or the character themselves dance and sing.
One more thing which irritates me is, they call it a family show which depicts a typical Indian family. How many families could afford to call a celebrity to celebrate a function or a festival? Infect after all these serials a family which can't afford to do al these things either feels guilty for not being able to do that or they takes loans or other means to collect the money to celebrate in this manner which creates problem in long run.
Another aspect, the superstition. Some of the serials telecast on TV these days are promoting the superstition. I didn't remember their names, as I can't stand these serials even for a minute. I think one of them is called “Devi”.
Whatever be the serial type is, only purpose is to earn money by using peoples faith and believe. The serial makers know that the major part of Indian population still believes in Indian tradition (its different thing whether they themselves follow it or not) because of their belief or the fear. So they are taking advantage of this thing and earning huge amount of money.
