“By definition eLearning is learning in isolation, not only for the learner but for the people creating eLearning material as well.”

Creating websites was a very exciting experience. There is so much from where you can find inspiration. There is a big number of good sites that one can see and that number keeps on increasing.

You see how people are visually treating different briefs and how people are handing different problems. You can see how things are changing around you and how you can adapt to it. You can also keep yourself updated about the technology by observing what is going on. My first site used frames and latest site is creating using standard compliant code where the only table is for the calendar. My understanding of the interactive medium, specially internet, is much richer compared to what it was a few years ago when I completed my diploma.

Working in the eLearning field is the different. Although you can still find inspiration outside because no matter what the end result is, the presentation, a kiosk or an eLearning CBT, the principles are same-You are trying to communicate. The problem is the lack of direct references, finding other elearning solutions to see hoe others are handling similar problems.

All eLearning is custom. Either it is made to client requirements or it is made as a product to be sold to a particular group. In either case, it is not freely available to just anyone. You can go to the net and find a hundred sites on insurance but you'd be hard pressed to find a few eLearning courses which you can see in totality, leave alone finding an eLearning solution created for insurance professional.

It is good in one way as you don't get unduly influenced by “something you just saw on the net” but it's bad as well as because you are not able to benchmark your work with anything else.
