One saas bahu serial was aired which was followed by a sea of such serials. Bored by such serials, someone started to start something new and we saw the Jasssi. becoming so famous.

If one serial starring a dumb lead character became famous, how is it possible that you won’t be bombarded with loser as lead character. Now you can see similar serials starting all over. I guess people like to see these serials because it gives them a nice feeling “I am much better than her.” one says after seeing these characters.

We have strange likes; we have always liked abnormalities in our “idols”. We liked the heroes of movies to be Mafia dons, criminals, terrorists and psychopaths who go around eating the people they have killed. Owing to the over-competitive society we live in we have developed a taste for another kind of characters—losers and underachievers. May be we are able to identify with them.

We are able to identify with the Mafia dons because we are sick of the society we are living in and we want to break out of some stupid rules. We like a psycho murderer because he’s not a part of rat-race we are running… and cursing. We can identify with underachievers who get pushed around because a majority of us believe that we haven’t got what we deserved and when the “loser” character gains something important, it feels like a moral victory.

Even after more than 50 years of independence, we are not able to gain the self-esteem and dignity of an independent person, the 200 years of slavery outweighs our recent freedom. How else can you explain the behaviour of the character called Jassi. She is treated like a door-mat. Actually worse, I wipe my shoes on the doormat, I don't curse it or call names. That character is abused by one of her boss who keeps reminding her of her middle-class stauts among other things and all our favourite character is doing is holding a file tightly and shedding some tears. What kind of role-models do we choose? I guess our next hero will be “Tiger” the street dog who gets kicked in the arse by everyone and all he does is run away with his tail between his legs. I guess we will be able to identify with him as well.

Actually all criticism apart, I want to be like the characters of those serials because no matter how stupid, boring and mundane their life is, they are busy living it rather than wasting it by watching TV and then writing in their blogs how stupid the whole damn thing is.
